OFF STAGE LADIES

Now that you're seated in our Island Players theatre, you look around, chat with your friends, and settle down to peruse through the program before the curtain rises and the play begins. You notice how many people are listed in connection with the production of the play: the director, the actor, the backstage crew, the makeup, the costumes and the prop people, the set builders and the painters, the the box office workers, etc. These are the people I'd like to tell you about.

The person who took your reservation was most likely an Off Stage Lady. An Off Stage Lady showed your seat. Off Stage Ladies worked on the costumes,in the makeup room, painted the set, possibly ran the light board or sound system, hunted for the props in the play you will enjoy tonight, fed the hungry cast and crew on Long Sunday(that's a double rehearsal on the Sunday just before the play opens), and if you are very lucky, some actresses on stage on stage tonight will be Off Stage Ladies.

Some an Off Stage Ladies helped put together the program you are reading. Others worked on fundraising projects that provided such things as the curtain before you, the computerized light board, the sound system, the water cooler, and the heating and air conditioning in the makeup and dressing rooms and a new stage door. The list goes on and on. Some Off Stage Ladies lend moral support to the group just so they can enjoy the social activities and meet new friends at monthly Off Stage Ladies luncheons, on the second Wednesday of each month, October thru May.
